RT Broadcaster Wins 12 Awards at US Int’l Film & Video Festival

RT broadcaster has won awards in 12 nominations at the US International Film & Video Festival, two of which are of the highest category, the broadcaster’s press service said in a statement on Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the statement, the broadcaster has been awarded for five newscasts, three documentaries, two programs, as well as a series of channel promos.

"The Gold Camera & Best Of Festival Nominee prize in the ‘news in development’ category was awarded to RT for the ‘Trapped in Yemen’ broadcast," the statement said.

According to the press service, the RT crew did not just cover the events in Yemen, but also helped foreigners evacuate the war-torn country, for which the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed gratitude to the broadcaster.

"The prize in the category ‘news program: an interview ‘ was awarded to a ‘Going Underground’ program by RT UK with the participation of well-known Australian journalist and writer John Pilger, named ‘Paris, ISIS and Media Propaganda’," the statement added.

The festival’s Silver Screen awards were also issued to RT’s news releases on the crash of the A321 passenger plane in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, the presidential elections in Argentina and the 70th session of the UN General Assembly. The silver awards also went to a documentary named "Her War: Women Against ISIS," telling the story of Kurdish women fighting against the Islamic State jihadist group, outlawed in Russia. Two more RT films also won second places in their nominations: "Trauma" documentary, depicting the work of medics in Ukraine’s crisis-stricken Donbas region, and the "Revived Photographs" – a series of animated sketches depicting WWII episodes.

The US International Film & Video Festival is held in Los Angeles since 1967. The jury, which consists of members of the International Quorum of Motion Picture Producers, awards prizes in five categories: "Corporate", "Education", "Entertainment", "Documentary" and "Student" project.

This year, over 1000 works from 29 countries competed for prizes at the festival.
