Bitla was diagnosed with progeria — a medical condition in which the individual ages several times faster than normal — when he was just a one-year-old.
Bitla, who was staying in India's commercial capital of Mumbai, went to the southern state to attend the wedding of a family member.
His father, Shrinivas Bitla, told Sputnik: "He had three main wishes. Nihal wanted an expensive Lamborghini car, a robot, and a visit to Disney land in the US. We were lucky enough to fulfil at least two of them through sponsors."
"Only a year and a half ago, we bought him a car and recently a robot as well. We were also planning to take him to Disney land next month. Unfortunately he passed away."
Soon after his death, Team Nihal said: "Nihal, your contagious smile, positive attitude, inspiring chats, optimistic outlook will give us strength for years to come. You have left us behind with heavy hearts for a higher place. Rest in peace our dear friend. Our thoughts and condolences are with family and friends."
Bitla has been a face for the progeria campaign ever since he was diagnosed with the degenerative condition. Doctors who treated him have said though he was only 15 years of age, his body must have felt like more than 60.
He was among 60 children in India who have been suffering from progeria. According to the Progeria Research Foundation, there are between 150 and 200 children identified with the genetic disorder worldwide. The average age of a person suffering from progeria is just 13.
