KIEV (Sputnik) – The German government has allocated 1 million euros ($1.1 million) to help internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Ukraine this year, the German Embassy in Kiev said Tuesday.
"The project, which was already supported by the federal government last year with a million euros, provides financial support for the most vulnerable IDPs in Ukraine," the embassy said.
This year's project looks to expand its assistance from nine to 13 Ukrainian regions to benefit the elderly, the disabled, single parents and families with many children, the German diplomatic mission specified.
The Ukrainian government has registered over 1.7 million people forced to leave their homes to escape the conflict between Kiev and pro-independence militias in southeastern Ukraine that erupted in April 2014.
