Politicians, Big Business Call the Shots in US, EU Media – Opinion Poll
MOSCOW (Sputnik), Anastasia Levchenko —Western media emphasizes negative issues and events when covering the Middle East and Asia, the editor of the United News of India (UNI), one of the two India’s major national news agencies, told Sputnik.

Earlier in the day, a new poll conducted by ICM Research exclusively for Sputnik revealed that 56 percent of European and US residents believed that mainstream media in their respective countries are influenced by politicians and big businesses.

"Western media, influenced by businesses and politicians, produce a biased reporting of what is happening in the [Middle East, South and Eastern Asia] region… They should give an unbiased picture of what is happening in India in particular," Ashok Tureja said.

Tureja added that Western media ignores significant progress taking place in India for the past 20 years, focusing instead on negative stories.

According to the UNI editor, India has taken steps to cooperate with all countries in the Middle East, South and Eastern Asia region to create a common information space.
