RT's Ukraine Coverage Nominated for Golden Nymph Award at TV Festival

RT TV channel news coverage of the shooting in Ukraine’s Mariupol in May 2014 that killed many civilians, was nominated for the Golden Nymph Award of the Monte Carlo TV Festival, the channel said in a press release on Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) On May 9, 2014, when residents of Mariupol were celebrating the World War II Victory in Europe day, clashes between the Ukrainian National Guard and pro-federalization activists resulted in the deaths of at least 20 civilians, according to RT.

The program has been nominated in the Best 24-hour News Program category.

RT’s RUPTLY video agency freelance cameraman Fyodor Zavaleikov was heavily wounded while filming the tragic events in Mariupol.

Other nominees in the Best 24-hour News Program category include US’ CNN, UK’s Sky News and Canada’s CBC.

RT won the Golden Nymph for the Best 24-hour News Program category in 2013.

The Monte Carlo Television Festival, established in 1961, is the world’s largest forum for television films, news stories and news programs. The main prize of the festival is the Golden Nymph, a golden copy of the Greek nymph Salmacis statue on display at the Louvre.
