Irish parliament's lower house, the Dáil, will sit late this evening to pass emergency laws, after a Court of Appeal decision today ruled that existing laws banning ecstasy and so-called "head shop drugs" were unconstitutional.
Only in Ireland would drugs accidentally become legal…

The ruling on the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977 means that it is no longer an offence to possess more than 100 different types of drugs that were previously considered illegal.
The Dáil is expected to stay as late as 11:30pm local time this evening to rush in new legislation that will once again make the drugs illegal, while the Seanad — Irish parliament's upper house — will have to approve the laws tomorrow.
So the minute I go away Ireland legalises drugs for a day. Typical.

However due to subtleties in Irish regulations, the new bill can only become an active law one day after it has been passed by the Seanad, meaning that possession of the drugs in question will be legal until midnight on Thursday morning.
