MOSCOW, December 10 (Sputnik) — Norwegian police has admitted security flaws and issued an apology after a Mexican asylum seeker stormed the stage during the Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony on Wednesday.

“This is a security breach for which we apologize. This should not have happened,” Oslo Police District inspector Johan Fredriksen told reporters following the incident.

The man was hastily tackled by police officers and led away from the stage.

“A possible explanation of how he entered without a ticket is that he followed others who were passing [the checkpoint] and was not noticed by those who checked tickets and ID,” Fredriksen said.

According to a press statement issued by the local police, the man is a Mexican student who arrived in Norway in late November and applied for asylum on December 9.

Pakistani teenager Malala Yousafzai and Indian children's rights activist Kailash Satyarthi were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize at Oslo City Hall on Wednesday for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education.
