PRAGUE, October 10 (RIA Novosti) – A man with what looks like Ebola symptoms was hospitalized late on Thursday in the Czech capital of Prague, a spokesman for the hospital told RIA Novosti.

"The patient was admitted to the hospital after he was suspected of being infected with the Ebola disease. He has had high fever for a long time now. Our doctors have found no other signs of the disease yet, but we sent all necessary samples to a Berlin clinic as soon as we could," said Martin Salek, spokesman for the hospital Na Bulovce.

Salek added the results of the test are expected to come by Friday noon.

The unnamed patient is a 56-year-old Czech businessman who had been to Ebola-hit Liberia 22 days ago. Initially, he sought medical help at another Prague hospital but was transferred to the Na Bulovce facility, which specializes in virus diseases. A special isolation ward has been set up in the hospital to house any potential Ebola patients.

The Ebola virus is transmitted through direct contact with the bodily fluids of those infected. Its symptoms include high fever, diarrhea and vomiting, among others. The incubation period is two to 21 days. The current mortality rate is at more than 50 percent.

The Ebola epidemic, currently taking place in West Africa, broke out in Guinea and later spread across Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Senegal.
