Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev was born on September 14, 1965 in the city of Leningrad, USSR – the second largest city in Russia, currently renamed to Saint Petersburg.
In 1987, Medvedev graduated from the Faculty of Law of Leningrad State University and in 1990 he completed post-graduate studies at Leningrad State University. Medvedev holds a PhD in law and the title of associate professor.
After completing his studies and until 1999, Medvedev taught civil and Roman law at his alma mater, now renamed to Saint Petersburg State University.
From 1990 to 1995, Dmitry Medvedev also worked as an Adviser to Chairman of the Leningrad City Council, expert consultant with St Petersburg City Hall's Committee for External Affairs.
In 1999, Medvedev became Deputy Chief of Staff of the Government Executive Office.
In 1999-2000, he worked as a Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office.
In 2000, he was appointed First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office.
In 2000, Medvedev was also appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gazprom, in 2001 he became Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors and was re-appointed Chairman in June, 2002.
In October 2003, Dmitry Medvedev was appointed Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office.
In November 2005, he became First Deputy Prime Minister.
On May 7, 2008, Dmitry Medvedev assumed the office of President of the Russian Federation.
On May 8, 2012, he was appointed Prime Minister of Russia.
Dmitry Medvedev is married to Svetlana Medvedeva, their son Ilya was born in 1995.
