Russian tourists are not travelling to African countries struck by the deadly Ebola virus, Russian Federal Tourism Agency (Rostourism) spokesperson said.

MOSCOW, August 18 (RIA Novosti) – Russian tourists are not travelling to African countries struck by the deadly Ebola virus, Russian Federal Tourism Agency (Rostourism) spokesperson said.

"We actually have zero tourist interest there. We have inquired about the relevant statistics for the last year, and there were only one or two private journeys, no tourism to talk about," the head of the Rostourism press service, Irina Schegolkova, told RIA Novosti.

Only three Russian citizens visited Guinea over the past year, the spokesperson said.

Ebola is a deadly disease transmitted through direct contact with blood or bodily fluids of the infected. There is no licensed treatment or vaccine for the Ebola virus, which has a case fatality rate of up to 90 percent.

The Ebola outbreak in West Africa, which has affected Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone, has claimed 1,140 lives, while 2,127 people have been infected, according to the World Health Organization.
