Twenty-two percent of children aged up to 10 years old living in Britain said they “just want to be rich,” when asked what they would like to do when they grow up, the Guardian reported Wednesday, citing the results of a survey.

MOSCOW, August 6 (RIA Novosti) - Twenty-two percent of children aged up to 10 years old living in Britain said they “just want to be rich,” when asked what they would like to do when they grow up, the Guardian reported Wednesday, citing the results of a survey.

The second-popular answer was “to become famous”. Other answers included “police officer”, “zoo keeper”, “firefighter”, “bus driver”, and “don’t want to work”.

1,300 parents of children aged between 5 and 10 years old were told not to show their offspring a list of possible answers, but just to wait and see what then children said.

Parents also asked their children whether money contributed to happiness. 75 percent of the respondents said “yes”.

The Guardian suggested that these answers could be influenced by the realty television and celebrity lifestyles.

Earlier, Britain’s Minister of State at the Department for Education Nick Gibb said that millions of British children were being raised with the wrong priorities.

Nick Gibb also pointed out that children were growing up in a society obsessed with celebrity culture, and thus could not develop a sense of responsibility from the early years.
