MOSCOW, August 4 (RIA Novosti) - The effectiveness of the Public Chamber will depend much on its members, said Sergei Mironov, speaker of the Russian Federation Council, parliament's upper house.
"I am convinced that the Public Chamber will comprise prominent people who are known in Russia and the world and whom people trust," he said Thursday.
The Public Chamber is currently in its final stage of formation, he said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin conducted consultations with public figures Wednesday to nominate the first 42 members of the chamber.
"I hope that this body will help society and parliament to control the work of the executive bodies," Mironov said. "The Russian president said the Public Chamber should use effective methods of public influence on the administrative system."
The speaker also said the law lists the basic mechanism of its cooperation with state bodies. Any information should be available to the chamber, while officials of any level should be able to attend its sessions if necessary.
"The Federation Council and State Duma [parliament's lower house] should consider the Public Chamber's decisions during the work on bills which, in my opinion, will improve their quality," he said.
Mironov also pointed to the lack of singe mechanism in the federation members and proposed to draft a relevant model law.
