The mission will use a fully automated guidance system for the first time, to dodge dangerous obstacles on the ground during the rover’s descent.

Sputnik is live from Cape Canaveral, Florida where NASA's rover Perseverance is taking off to begin a 6-month flight to Mars. The vehicle's objective is to study the Red Planet's geology and climate and search for signs of life.

The mission is expected to pave the way for future human space exploration beyond the Moon.
