The US military awarded a contract worth more than $42 million to for hundreds of Black Hawk helicopter fuel, the Department of Defense said in a press release.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Robertson Fuel Systems was awarded a $42.1 million contract for the procurement of 541 crashworthy external fuel systems bussed aircraft A-kits in support of UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter requirements, the Pentagon said.

The external fuel systems will be supplied over the five year life of the contract ending on December 8, 2021, the Defense Department said.

The sandy, hot and high-altitude conditions that define combat in Afghanistan and Iraq exposed the limitations of the Black Hawk and the US Army has called for a new design to travel higher, farther and faster, while carrying heavier loads.
