China successfully launched its Yunhai-1 meteorological satellite on Saturday, local media reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to the Xinhua news agency, the launch was carried out from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the country’s northwest.

The satellite was carried by a Long March-2D rocket. It will seek to observe atmospheric, marine and space environment, disaster prevention and mitigation, and scientific experiments, according to the media outlet.

It was developed by the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology.
