France’s Eutelsat Communications has ordered a video and broadband broadcast satellite for Europe and North Africa in a contract involving European giant Airbus and Orbital ATK, the US company said in a press release on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Orbital ATK “will team with Airbus Defense and Space to build EUTELSAT 5 West B, marking the first time the two have partnered on satellite work,” the release explained.

The satellite is to be built in the US state of Virginia for a planned 2018 launch by a Proton rocket from the Russian-run Baikonur space center in Kazakhstan, according to the release.

Eutelsat is a leading provider of satellite-based TV, radio and communications services to Europe, the Middle East, Africa, India, and parts of Asia and the Americas.

Terms of the contract, including its value, were not disclosed.
