Over 150 Firms Expected at Russian Defense Robotics Conference in February

Over 150 companies are slated to take part in a robotics conference near the Russian capital in February next year, the Russian Defense Ministry’s research and development chief said Saturday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Speaking with the Russian News Service radio station, Kordyukov said the dialogue-level conference would address a wide range of the pressing problems facing the state of national robotics.

“A massive conference on robotics will be held in February at the Patriot convention and exhibition center…We have received confirmation from more than 150 participants,” Col. Roman Kordyukov said.

Russia’s United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation (UIMC) chief Alexander Kalinin said last month it made significant advances in the field, developing cutting-edge technologies to form the basis of third-generation robots with “humanlike capabilities.”

Operating at low detection levels, the third-generation robots will be able to navigate, recognize objects and interact with drones and other robotic systems without human intervention.

The robot’s expanded capacities are expected to replace humans in surveillance, patrolling indoor and outdoor facilities, transport of goods, data gathering and mapping.

The Patriot Park was unveiled last summer in the town of Kubinka west of Moscow. It drew record crowds hosting the Army-2015 international military-technical forum in June.
