Scientists have come up with a smartphone accessory capable of detecting multiple disease markers within a mere 15 minutes.
The device replaces the traditional method of testing for such disease markers that uses highly expensive equipment costing over $18,000. By contrast, the new accessory will be manufactured for just $34, media reports say.
The plug-in gadget, developed by researchers at New York’s Columbia University, needs only a finger prick of blood to detect three infectious disease markers. It has already been successfully tested in Rwanda.
