MOSCOW, (Sputnik) - The Russian Defence Ministry said on Tuesday that its military satellite that was launched earlier in the day from the Baikonur cosmodrome atop a Proton-M carrier rocket was put into calculated orbit successfully.

"The Proton-M heavy carrier rocket, launched today, on August 6, at 00.56 Moscow time [21:56 GMT] from the Baikonur cosmodrome (Republic of Kazakhstan), has successfully taken the satellite to the intended orbit in the prescribed time", the Defence Ministry said.

The operation was carried out in a normal regime, the ministry said, adding that the Russian Aerospace Forces was tracking the satellite.
