"We do not oppose the name that eventually appeared and was announced. We ask questions about how legitimate this process is and how much it really is conditioned by the desire to find a consensus between Greece and Skopje, or it is conditioned by a US desire to drive all Balkan countries into NATO as soon as possible and stop any Russian influence in that region", Lavrov said.

Russia Doubts US-Organised Summit On Middle East in Poland Will Facilitate Settlement in Region

Lavrov said he has received an invitation to attend the summit on the Middle East in Poland, noting, however, that its programme aims to discuss the deterrence of Iran in the region.

"Frankly speaking, it is not the normal practice in international affairs. It turns out that about fifty ministers were invited to consecrate with their presence a document that the United States would write - with all due respect to Poland - on its own. Taking into account these considerations, we have big doubts that such an event can help to constructively solve the problems of the Middle East region", the Russian Foreign Minister explained.

Accusations Against Trump's Links to Kremlin Are Decline of Professional Standards in Journalism

"To be honest, I already find it hard to comment on the situation regarding claims that President Trump is, in fact, a Russian agent. I think this is such degradation of journalistic standards and such a thankless job for the US press. I can't believe that journalists sincerely and professionally work on these stories in the United States", Lavrov stressed.

The minister specified that under US legislation, the head of state has a right to define and implement foreign policy.

"We know that the Congress attacks this right, it emerges often in media reports, including those by your counterparts. But this does not mean that these attacks are constitutional, neither does it makes them less illegal", he added.

Russia Supports Negotiation Between Kurds and Damascus as US Leaves Syrian Territories

Lavrov said armaments, territories and military facilities that belong to the United States in Syria should be put under "the control of the Syrian government, the Syrian Armed Forces and the Syrian administrative structures, with the understanding that the Kurds should be provided with all necessary conditions."

"We welcome and support contacts that have now begun between Kurdish representatives and the Syrian authorities in order to agree on how to restore life in a single state without external interference", he said added.

US National Whelan, Charged With Espionage, Was Caught Red-Handed in Moscow

Lavrov has stated that the arrest of US national Whelan, who also has Canadian, British and Irish citizenships, is absolutely unrelated to speculations about his exchange for Russian detainees abroad, as the man had been caught in the act of espionage.

He also regretted that there had been statements, including from Canada, about possible sanctions against Moscow due to Whelan's arrest.
