The administration of the museum has confirmed the information about the fire in a comment to Meduza.io, a media outlet.
The Russian Emergencies Ministry said that the fire has been extinguished.
The museum collection of the Department of Personal Collections includes more than seven thousand works of Russian and West European art from the 15th-20th centuries, including paintings, graphics, sculptures, applied art and artistic photography.
There are more than 7,000 showpieces in the museum, including paintings, graphics, sculptures and artistic photography from Russia and the countries of Western Europe.
