The speaker of the Russian upper house, the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko said on Monday that Moscow will take measures to make sure that no external actors could meddle in Russian affairs in the run up to the 2018 presidential election in the country.

Putin Answers Question About 2018 Presidential Election in Russia
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – There has been an intensification of activities of "destructive forces" ahead of the presidential elections in Russia, Moscow will take measures to prevent outside interference, Matvienko said Monday.

"There are presently attempts to influence via information on some social layers, involve certain agencies in this. Such activities have intensified in relation to the upcoming presidential elections," Matvienko told a press conference adding that measures to prevent such interference would be taken.

The Russian presidential election is scheduled for March 18, 2018.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on June 21 he had not yet decided whether he would run for president in 2018.
