MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Units of Russia’s 58th Army, stationed in the Northern Caucasus and in South Ossetia, have started large-scale military training on Monday, Southern Military District spokesman Col. Vadim Astafyev said.
"Some 16,000 military and over 4,000 items of weapons and military equipment are taking part in the training. In the course of the training, the military will work on the personnel’s actions during alarm rise, receiving weapons and equipment, preparing the technical equipment for leaving the depot and moving out to deployment areas," Astafyev said.
The spokesman added that the officers would train practice prospective trends in perfecting military readiness of the unit with a glance at the new guidelines.
According to Astafyev, the training will continue for a week and lead to development of unified readiness requirements for all military units.
