ST. PETERSBURG (Sputnik) — It was very important to see how Russia is applying the IAEA guidelines and how the guidelines generate the innovations and improvements in the sphere of nuclear technologies in the country, Seokolo told reporters on Friday at the press conference on the results of his visit to Russia.

The IAEA chairman added that both nuclear security and safety at the nuclear facilities in Russia is at a very high level.

Seokolo paid a visit to the Russian nuclear power facilities in the Leningrad region as part of the delegation of permanent representatives of foreign countries to the international organizations in Vienna. The diplomats were able to learn how the Russian facilities ensure the safety of construction and operation of nuclear projects.

The delegation visited the existing units of the Leningrad nuclear power plant (NPP) and the ones under construction as well as the Baltic Shipyard, where new nuclear icebreakers and the Akademik Lomonosov Floating Power Unit (FPU) are being built.
