Russian fighters were scrambled six times over a week to intercept foreign spy jets as they flew close to the border, the Defense Ministry said Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A ministerial infographic revealed that 20 aircraft surveyed the external border of Russia’s airspace without trespassing.

Last week the ministry informed about four cases when Russian military aircraft intercepted foreign jets.

The number of air incidents involving Russian and NATO planes has increased in the past years after the US-led alliance ratcheted up its presence on Russia’s western border in 2014.
