    Russia plans to deploy a division on the Kuril Islands this year, according to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

    MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Russian Defense Ministry will deploy a division on the Kuril Islands this year, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Wednesday.

    "We expect to complete the deployment of three divisions on the western and southwestern border. Active work continues to protect the Kurils, a division should also be deployed there this year," Shoigu told the Russian parliament.
