The assassination of the Russian ambassador to Turkey was devastating for Russian President Vladimir Putin, who characterized the incident as a terrorist attack, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Andrey Karlov was shot and killed at an art gallery exhibition opening in Ankara on December 19. The Russian Foreign Ministry said it considered the attack a terrorist act.

"Vladimir Putin strongly condemned this provocation. He characterized it as a terrorist attack, a human tragedy because it was a devastating piece of news for the president," Peskov told the MIR television channel.
