Former US State Secretary was elected as a Russian Academy of Sciencesn foreign member.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Former US State Secretary Henry Kissinger was elected as a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

​The elections of new members of the Russian Academy of Sciences were held Friday. The appointment of Henry Kissinger was announced during the general meeting of the academy.

Kissinger served as the US state secretary under President Richard Nixon and President Gerald Ford in 1973-1977, winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 1973 for the ceasefire and withdrawal of US troops from Vietnam. Kissinger also pioneered the detente policy toward the Soviet Union and contributed to the improvement of US relations with China.
