MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Yaroshenko, a Russian pilot sentenced to 20 years in prison for conspiring to import more than $100 million worth of cocaine into the United States, was arrested in Liberia in 2010 and given back to US authorities.
"The Russian Justice Ministry sent a request for transferal of Yaroshenko K.V. to Russia in a letter to the Russian Foreign Ministry to be passed on via diplomatic channels to competent bodies of the United States," the ministry said in a statement.
Yaroshenko has claimed to be set up and mistreated while in US custody. Yaroshenko has also said his health suffered significantly as he is denied proper healthcare.
