Russia could add hypersonic weapons to its arsenal already before this decade is out, newspaper Kommersant reported citing Tactical Missile Systems Corp. CEO Boris Obnosov.

“I guess we’ll have [such weapons] somewhere early next decade,” Obnosov said, adding that work on hypersonic projects would give a strong boost to science, above all aerodynamics, computing methods and engine design.

Boris Obnosov said that the TMC was working closely with the Russian Academy of Sciences in its hypersonic research and was also implementing a raft of similar projects with the Future Research Foundation under the Military-Industrial Commission of the Russian Federation.

Founded in 2002, Tactical Missiles Corporation is a major Russian builder of non-strategic attack missile systems, air-to-air missiles and other weapons.
