MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The experts from Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) forecast a significant increase in the number of cyberattacks on the country's banks amid hackers' growing activity around the world, spokeswoman for the FSB Information Security Center Oksana Dokuchaeva said on Wednesday.
"There was an uptick in the cyberfraud by infecting workstations with malware at the end of 2015 and at the beginning of 2016. As a result, over one hundred banks have suffered a damage worth 10 billion rubles ($154 million). The experts forecast an even more significant increase in the number of cyberattacks on Russian financial institutions," she said in a statement.
She also noted, that the number of the embezzlement cases and hacks targeting banking systems has grown worldwide. According to the international experts, majority of cybercriminals reside in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States countries.
