United Russia Expects to Win Constitutional Majority in Parliamentary Elections

Russia’s ruling party, the United Russia, expects to win a constitutional majority in the State Duma, the lower house of the country’s parliament, a source in the party told RIA Novosti on Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – "Around 300 mandates, 167-168 of which are in single-seat districts" the source said.

More than 111 million eligible voters took part in electing 450 lawmakers for the next five years on Sunday.

According to the latest data from the Central Electoral Commission, the United Russia party received 52.3 percent of the votes and 316 seats in the Duma, with a third of the ballots counted.

The Communist Party won 14.47 percent, while the Liberal Democratic Party received 14.46 percent of the votes.
