The voter turnout at the Russian parliamentary elections that completed earlier in the day was not the strongest, but high enough, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Sunday, adding that the United Russia party is evidently winning.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to Putin, the people are voting for the ruling party despite all hardships.

"Indeed, the people have shown their civic position. Participating in elections is part of it, [the turnout] was not the strongest of what we have seen in previous election campaigns, but it was high," Putin said, speaking at the headquarters of the United Russia.

“It is already clear, and the exit polls are evident, there are small differences, but overall, Dmitry [Medvedev] said it is safe to say that the party has achieved very good results, won,” Putin said.
