Russian energy giant Gazprom plans to connect West Siberian gas extraction sites and gas transportation system with the Far Eastern network to satisfy domestic needs and improve the company's export capacity, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday.

VLADIVOSTOK (Sputnik) — The second Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) is taking place on September 2-3 on the campus of Russia’s Far Eastern Federal University on Russky Island near the city of Vladivostok.

"Gazprom has plans to connect West-Siberian gas deposits, fields and extraction sites, and our gas transportation system with the system in the Far East… These are not just plans. [Gazprom] has actually started to design this [construction] work. This is related to Gazprom's desire to expand its export markets," Putin said at a meeting with potential investors in Russia's Far East.
