Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the Foreign Ministry to verify the presence of Russians among the 84 victims of a terrorist attack in the southern French city of Nice and provide the necessary assistance, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The ministry was tasked with providing the necessary assistance to the families and friends of a Russian student who died in the attack.

"Putin instructed the Foreign Ministry to carefully check information about the presence of Russians among the victims and the injured in the terrorist attack in Nice, to assist them through the diplomatic mission," Peskov said.

A truck rammed into a crowd celebrating Bastille Day along Nice's Promenade des Anglais late Thursday, killing 84 and injuring dozens more.
