Russia's general construction works on defense facilities in Arctic are expected to be completed by the end of 2016, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov said on Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Ivanov visited the city of Tiksi in Russia's north to overlook progress of the construction.

"General work in Arctic is to be completed by the end of the current year," Ivanov said.

Ivanov stressed that building military facilities in Russia's north was a unique project in terms of extreme weather conditions.
