MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian President Vladimir Putin and the country's Security Council have discussed initiatives to strengthen the liability for doping offenses, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday.
"A discussion was also held on the issue of legislative initiatives to strengthen the responsibility for doping use and involvement in doping use. In particular…the participants of the meeting underlined the importance of introducing new norms for search and operational activities in regard to doping cases," Peskov told reporters.
On June 20, the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) upheld the suspension of the International Association of Athletics Federation's (ARAF) membership, virtually banning Russian athletes from the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) is about to file a lawsuit with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to restore Russian athletes' right to compete in the Olympics.
