Russia's lower house of parliament, the State Duma, passed on Wednesday in the third and final reading a package of bills on creation of the National Guard (Rosgvardia) in the country.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted the relevant draft legislation to the parliament in April.

According to the new law, the National Guard, created on the basis of Interior Troops and special police units, will be tasked with the fight against terrorism and organized crime in the country, as well as with maintaining law and order at any mass public events, including unauthorized protests.
