Murmansk Region Authorities: Japan to Import Seafood Via Northern Sea Route
ST. PETERSBURG (Sputnik) — The volume of oil, gas and ores transportation along the Northern transport corridor could reach 51 million metric tons by 2025, Russian Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Sergei Donskoi said on Saturday.

"According to expert estimates, the volume of transportation of oil, gas and mining complex production via the Northern Transport Corridor will amount to 51 million tons by 2025, " Donskoi stated at the St.Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in Russia.

According to him, the transportation of mineral resources will be carried out through the Pomor North Sea sector of the transport corridor, in particular, via the Pechora and Barents seas. The main part of the deliveries will be made via the western part of the route, he added.

"It should be emphasized that the development of mineral resources and the Arctic shipping are interconnected. The export of oil, gas and the mining complex production will contribute to the development of infrastructure of the Northern Sea transport corridor, as well as will reduce the navigation risks," the minister said.

The Northern Sea Corridor is a shipping lane, running along the Russian Arctic coast, the shortest sea route between the European part of Russia and the Far East. The route serves Arctic ports and large rivers of Siberia, and primarily delivers fuel, equipment, food, timber, and other natural resources.
