A private Eurocopter crashed in the Russian western Leningrad Region, killing the two people on board, a source in the Emergencies Ministry local department told RIA Novosti on Saturday.

ST. PETERSBURG (Sputnik) — The Eurocopter AF-350 fell into the Leningrad Region's Lake Sukhodolskoye some 65 feet from the shore at about 06:00 GMT on Saturday. According to investigators, the chopper lies at a depth of up to 26 feet.

"Divers have confirmed that the pilot and the passenger were killed. Now it is planned to recover the crashed Eurocopter from the lake using the Emergencies Ministry's Ka-32 helicopter," the source said.

According to local investigators, both crash victims were male. Their flight had not been authorized. A probe into the incident has been launched.
