NATO Not Changing Stance on Ukraine for Anti-Terror Cooperation With Russia
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Moscow is prepared to resume cooperation with NATO if the alliance decides to change its negative attitude towards working with Russia, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Friday.

"We will be prepared to thaw this and other vectors of cooperation in case our NATO colleagues take the corresponding decision and change their negative attitude to these forms of cooperation," Lavrov said after holding talks with his Italian counterpart Paolo Gentiloni.

According to the foreign minister, it is unforgivable to keep frozen the existing mechanisms of cooperation between Russia, EU and NATO, as they are essential for coordination of the fight against global terrorism.

"It is unforgivable to keep frozen mechanisms that have been created long before the Syrian crisis, including those in the framework of relations between Russia and the European Union, as well as the Russia-NATO Council," Lavrov said.

"Those mechanisms were aimed at preventing the spread of terrorism, allowed the prompt exchange of information as well as joint efforts to curb the spread of terrorist ideology in new social strata," he stressed.

Earlier in the day, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that Moscow planned to deploy over 1,100 units of modernized military equipment it Russia's Western Military District in a response to the NATO buildup in Europe near Russia's western borders. The equipment including modern planes, helicopters, tanks, armored personnel carriers, means of communication and control.
