"Crews of the airborne troops’ combat vehicles, artillery, self-propelled artillery and air defense systems will perform precision fire lessons. The fire damage of targets simulating enemy equipment, weapons and fortifications will be carried out in complex and often changing tactical conditions," the ministry said.
Aviation and task force crews will cover the paratroopers during the live firing stage of the exercises, the ministry added.
The inspection is part of strategic command-staff training on Russian Armed Forces management that began on Tuesday.
Three divisions were brought to highest combat readiness level earlier for a combined march of nearly 1,000 miles.
The snap inspection involves around 30,000 personnel, around 3,800 pieces of arms and military equipment, and over 100 aircraft.
