The Russian Strategic Missile Forces command began combat readiness inspections of its division in southwestern Russia’s Saratov Region ahead of military exercises, the Defense Ministry said in a statement Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) Around 35 missile combat crews are expected to be involved in the inspections due to wrap up on March 26.

"In addition to theoretical training, the inspection will evaluate practical actions, skills and abilities in implementing main tasks while on combat duty, working out preliminary and target tasks on command and control equipment, as well as while bringing [troops] to highest combat readiness," the ministry said.

The ministry said earlier that around 10,000 Strategic Missile Forces troops were due to take part in the inspections nationwide.
