Russian Investigation Into Total CEO Plane Crash Sufficient: French Representative
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The companies, which insured the lives of Christophe de Margerie and 3 crew members of his private jet for 1 million Euros, as well as the Falcon 50 aircraft for 9 million Euros, demand the recovery of their losses from those they deem responsible for the crash.

The defendants in the lawsuit are JSC Airport Vnukovo, OJSC International Airport Vnukovo and the State Air Traffic Management Corporation of the Russian Federation. The plaintiffs are Berkshire Hathaway International Insurance Ltd, Tokio Marine Kiln Insurance Ltd, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group (MSIG), Great Lakes Reinsurance, and MAPFRE Global Risks.

A Vnukovo airport representative upheld his petition on Wednesday on the abandonment of the claim. The court demanded that the plaintiffs present additional evidence, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported from the courtroom.

More Detentions Expected in Ongoing Total CEO Plane Crash Probe: Investigators
The former CEO of Total oil and gas company Christophe de Margerie died on the night from October 20 to October 21, 2014, when his business jet crashed in Moscow’s Vnukovo airport. De Margerie was the only passenger on board the aircraft. Three French crew members also died in the crash.

The plane, which was scheduled to fly to Paris, crashed during takeoff after colliding with a snow machine that was being operated by driver Vladimir Martynenko.

According to the Russian Investigative Committee, Martynenko was operating the snowplow in violation of the runway rules due to the absence of oversight by senior shift engineer Vladimir Ledenev. Violations on the part of air-traffic controllers on duty also contributed to the crash.
