The Russian Federal Road Agency said Friday it has authorized the construction of a bridge over the Kerch Strait connecting Russia's mainland and the Crimean Peninsula.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The 19-kilometer main bridge is expected to open in December 2018 to connect the town of Kerch in Crimea to Krasnodar Region in the Russia south, bypassing Ukraine.

The Federal Road Agency is an authorized competent body in the field of roads and vehicles, which exercises the obligations arising from the international treaties signed by the Russian Federation as it pertains to providing the public services and administering public property.
