CHELYABINSK (Sputnik) — On February 8, the Russian Federal Security Service detained seven individuals in the Ural city of Yekaterinburg on suspicion of being members of Daesh terrorist group.
The suspects are believed to have been planning terrorist acts in Moscow and St. Petersburg, after which they intended to travel to Syria to take up arms alongside Daesh.
"The Urals are becoming a magnet for huge immigrates. Almost half a million foreign citizens were registered in the subjects of Ural Federal District in 2015… But hot on the heels, unfortunately, of the migration flows radical ideas are infiltrating [the region], emissaries [of terrorist groups] are coming[to the Urals]," Igor Barinov told reporters.
He added that during recent discussions about the problems of extremism in the region it was proposed to unify the counterterrorism efforts of the various government agencies.
