MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered on Saturday to set up operational headquarters to tackle terrorist threats:
"To establish operational headquarters in marine areas for the organization of planning the use of forces and means for federal anti-terrorism, counter-terrorist operations in the cities of Kaspiysk, Murmansk, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Simferopol and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk," the decree, posted on Russia’s legal information website, read.
In 2015, Moscow boosted its anti-terrorism efforts. In September, Russia, Iran, Iraq and Syria set up a joint information center in Baghdad to coordinate efforts against the Daesh extremist militant group, also known as the Islamic State.
The Russian Aerospace Forces have conducted over 4,200 combat sorties in nearly three months since the start of the mission requested by Syrian President Bashar Assad. Over 1,000 Daesh terrorist objects have been engaged in the past week alone, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. Daesh is an extremist group outlawed in many countries, including Russia.
