MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Turkish import restrictions will not increase food prices in Russia, Russian Trade and Industry Minister Denis Manturov said Wednesday.
"I do not think [the embargo on Turkish goods could affect food prices in Russia]. Because, firstly, it doesn’t start tomorrow, we give it a month… Retail chains and other retail formats may shift to other markets and other manufacturers," Manturov told reporters.
Relations between Russia and Turkey deteriorated after the November 24 downing of a Russian Su-24 bomber in Syria by a Turkish fighter jet. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the incident "a stab in the back."
On Saturday, Putin signed a decree to increase national security and introduce economic measures against Ankara starting January 2016. The measures ban or restrict the activities of Turkish organizations in Russia, as well as introduce import restrictions on certain Turkish goods.
