MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Russian parliament is urging stronger security at major public events and in public transport in view of the increasing global terrorist threat, a draft decision to be adopted on Friday by the Federation Council and the State Duma (upper and lower houses of the Russian Federal Assembly) says.
The document proposes "strengthening measures to ensure the safety of civilians during mass events, on transport and in other public places, considering it an absolute priority in the development of relevant legislation."
According to the Russian parliament, eradicating the socio-economic and ideological roots of extremism and preventing its spread among the population is another crucial aspect of the fight against terrorism.
According to a draft decision, the terrorist activity in question "includes recruitment, propaganda and the spread of methods and practices of terrorism, as well as financing and any other support of terrorist groups."
The Russian parliament is also calling on international inter-parliamentary organizations, as well as the international community as a whole, to strengthen joint anti-terrorism efforts.
According to the parliamentary draft, it is necessary "to improve broad international cooperation with all countries without exception, as well as with organizations and structures expressing willingness to cooperate."
