European tourists can follow the project’s travel route in the Leningrad Region, centering on the tourist and recreational cluster in the town of  Staraya Ladoga. Other places to visit include the fortresses of  Ivangorod,  Koporie,  Korela in Priozersk and the town of  Tikhvin. The project supports different kinds of tourism popular in Europe, including educational and pilgrimage tourism.

The official also said that the region’s monasteries are a popular destination for travelers who enjoy educational tours and pilgrimages.

The Leningrad Region’s tourism potential was promoted during the opening of a Visit Russia office in Berlin on October 2. The region’s involvement in the Silver Necklace of Russia project will help attract tourists from Germany, Austria and other European countries, the official said.

Apart from the project, the Leningrad Region also offers such international tourist routes as ViaHanseatika, From Fortress to Fortress, and the Red Route for Chinese tourists.
